At Carolina Breast Care Specialists, we recognize the need for specialized care and attention in issues of breast health.
The American Cancer Society estimates that 192,370 women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2009 and 40,170 women die from the disease this year. Right now there are slightly over 2 million women living in the United States who have been treated for breast cancer.
In North Carolina, an estimated 5,470 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 and 1,310 will die from the disease.
Carolina Breast Care Specialists was founded to provide women with access to state of the art quality specialty care. Women at our practice can be confident that their issues will be addressed with the attention and importance that they deserve. Patients never feel they are competing with other medical issues for attention.
Comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services are offered. Office based services include expert diagnostic ultrasound and minimally invasive biopsies - ultrasound and stereotactic (digital mammogram) guided using state of the art tools (Zonare ultrasound, ATEC biopsy). Risk assessment including genetic counseling is performed regularly along with individualized plans for high risk surveillance (including breast MRI) and genetic testing (BRACAnalysis).
While the vast majority of women will resolve as benign disease, for those in whom cancer is diagnosed, a multidisciplinary team approach is used. At Carolina Breast Care Specialists, we work with a highly skilled team of experts in breast disease to create an individualized care program involving not only surgical oncology but also medical oncology, radiation oncology, and plastic surgery. Where appropriate, a strong effort is made to offer breast conservation using oncoplastic techniques. Patients are also provided with access to the latest in cancer genomics (Oncotype DX), accelerated partial breast irradiation (MammoSite, SAVI), and clinical trials. Psychosocial support is provided by everyone in the practice and through access to extensive support group services.
